Respect the Courts

Do you respect the role of the Iowa Supreme Court and the judicial process?  Do you disagree with any attempt to undermine or influence the judiciary?  Do you believe in the independence of the judiciary as a critical piece of our democracy?

We do.

Unfortunately, a number of individuals and organizations in Iowa are attempting to circumvent the judicial process and undermine the role of the Iowa Supreme Court.  They filled the House gallery during the State of the Judiciary in an attempt to influence members of the Iowa Supreme Court.  They have called for movement on a constitutional amendment that would undermine a current case before the Iowa Supreme Court.  And, they are now calling for the impeachment of a judge simply because they disagreed with his ruling.

Despite their divisive tactics to interfere with the judicial process, we are confident that the will of the majority of Iowa voters will prevail.  Why?

  • Iowa voters have a deep respect for their constitution, the Iowa Supreme Court, and the judicial process.
  • Iowans respect the independence of the judiciary as a critical piece of our democracy.
  • Voters do not want to undermine or influence the judicial process by circumventing the Iowa Supreme Court's authority to rule.
  • It is inappropriate to play politics with our state's constitution.
  • Voters want our elected officials to focus on the critical issues facing Iowa families like health care, jobs, and education – and not divisive, political tactics.
